Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS) seeks to break down the barriers that keep members of our community trapped in a cycle of intergenerational poverty. NVFS’ mission is to empower individuals and families to improve their quality of life, and to promote community cooperation and support in responding to family needs.

As the largest non-profit provider in Northern Virginia, our core capability is to provide innovative, multi-faceted, and responsive programs that address ever-changing community needs. We achieve this through a robust set of programs, aimed at providing holistic, personalized, wrap-around services that meet individuals and families where they are on their path to self-sufficiency. At the heart of what we do are the more than 30,000 individuals who’s lives we have touched annually.

NVFS serves a diverse community of clients in Northern Virginia, most of whom live in poverty. NVFS clients live in the following counties: Arlington County, Fairfax County, Loudoun County, Prince William County and the City of Alexandria.

NVFS programs and services address interconnected barriers through eight core service areas, including Early Childhood Development; Foster Care; Health Access and Nutrition Services; Housing and Homeless Services; Immigration Legal; Trauma-Informed Mental Health and Case Management; Workforce Development; and Youth Initiatives.
