NYC Kids Project seeks to create an inclusive society where all people are valued for who they are. We teach all children to embrace and nurture inclusion, belonging, and respect for all through puppetry. We partner with schools across New York City, focusing on Title 1 schools, and use puppetry and storytelling to create immersive experiences for young children through which they can practice empathy, inclusion and kindness.
We believe that a transformative vision for social justice must begin with young people. In a place like New York City, where people from diverse backgrounds, identities, and abilities live in close proximity, we have a powerful opportunity to raise new generations who root their lives in empathy, unity, and community. If we can ensure that children have a practical understanding of these values, and that living these values will make others feel good and will make them feel good about themselves, then the rising generation can become the one that fulfills the promise of more equitable systems and structures which prioritize human thriving and community care. Our puppet-based experiences are designed to do just that.
