Oakwood Creative Care's mission is to enhance the quality of life and spark JOY for older adults with cognitive or physical challenges, as well as their family care partners, through day clubs, memory cafés, and other home and community-based services.
Amidst the formidable challenges faced by older adults with conditions like Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, or the aftermath of stroke, a deep yearning persists for a return to the meaning, purpose, and unadulterated joy they once cherished. These men & women were once the pillars of our communities. They were the parents, mentors, and healers who dedicated their lives to serving our nation and raising our families. Our day clubs allow them to continue living in their homes, while providing a safe, engaging, and joyful environment throughout the day. Oakwood's members participate in activities which are age-appropriate and dignifying. Instead of the televisions, coloring books, and bingo games which are typically found in daytime care facilities - our members learn to paint beautiful scenes and self portraits from professional artists. They join choirs, play instruments, discuss world history, practice yoga, and more.
Our new Dementia Hub is providing services desperately needed by families navigating a journey with dementia. We offer free memory cafes, support groups, engagement classes, educational opportunities, and caregiver training. Additionally, we work with local businesses to train them on making their location and employees dementia friendly.
