OAR of Northern Virginia is a local non-profit restorative justice organization that has provided opportunities, alternatives, and resources for justice-involved individuals and their families in Northern Virginia for over 50 years. OAR's alternative Sentencing Programs safely reduce costly incarcerations while offering justice-involved individuals a second chance through diversion to alternative sanctions for non-violent misdemeanor offenses. Jail Programs are offered by OAR through collaborative relationships with the jails in Fairfax and Loudoun Counties. OAR provides case management for inmates nearing release, including release planning. OAR also offers inmates the opportunity to take classes in Anger Management, Employability Skills and Workplace Skills, Fatherhood and Parenting, Keyboarding/Basic Computer Skills, and numerous other topics to prepare for reentry. OAR's reentry and Family Services includes pre-release and post-release services to assist community members returning from incarceration in successfully finding employment, housing, health care, and specialized services such as mental health and substance abuse treatment.  Family Services are designed to assist families challenged by the incarceration of a loved one and include a Family Support Group, providing school supplies for kids, and a Family Ties Project. OAR’s Violence Intervention Program is an 18-week, referral-based intervention program designed to aid in the reduction and elimination of domestic violence in Northern Virginia.
