MISSION:

Inspiring individuals, the community and the world through excellence in musical entertainment.

VISION:

To use music to change images and attitudes and build a stronger community.

ORGANIZATION HISTORY:

It is fitting that, in 1990, the Orlando Gay Chorus (OGC) was founded on Valentine’s Day; because over the next 33 years, the Central Florida Community would truly take the organization to heart. This all volunteer, non-profit arts organization is a 501(c)(3) and began with just 39 members and initial cases of the jitters. The men and women of the Orlando Gay Chorus believe that their music can affirm and change the lives of those who hear them. The OGC has prospered and grown over 32 seasons - providing exciting and eclectic musical experiences. They have performed locally, statewide, nationally and internationally before audiences of up to 5000 enthusiastic patrons.

COMMUNITY INVOLVEMENT:

The OGC serves not only as a vital part of the Orlando Arts Community, but also through their humanitarian efforts throughout the years. Each November, the Chorus provides Thanksgiving Day meal baskets for families in need. In conjunction with their annual Holiday Concerts, they host the longest, continuous Marine Corps “Toys For Tots” campaign in Central Florida.

In the year following Pulse, the Chorus gave back to the community with over 70 performances, including 40 vigils, benefits and fundraisers to raise money for those affected by the tragedy . . . from the vigils and concerts at the Dr. Phillips Center in Orlando to the Kennedy Space Center memorial. The Chorus also continues its commitment to supporting HIV/AIDS health service organizations that provide care for many individuals in our local community and beyond. As part of OGC’s mission to make the arts more accessible, they have collaborated with higher educational institutions, businesses and other non-profits to bring their musical talents to a broader audience.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT FOR THE ORLANDO GAY CHORUS:

Fundraising efforts are under the direction of a fundraising committee. The Orlando Gay Chorus is funded in part by a grant from United Arts of Central Florida and a Walt Disney World Company Employee VoluntEars reimbursement program. In addition to these benefactors, the Chorus is supported by ticket sales, corporate sponsorships, donations, merchandise sales and fundraising events. We seek to broaden our support base through new relationships with individuals, corporations, and foundations in the community to raise much-needed funds for operations and program support.
