PADS Lake County is a community-based organization whose mission is to provide trauma-informed support, resources, and shelter to individuals and families experiencing a housing crisis.  We envision a community in which homelessness is rare, brief and non-recurring; one who may experience a housing crisis has timely access to the proper resources and services based on their individual need.

We provide critical and trauma-based programs and services to those who are struggling with homeleness, including:

·   Year-round Emergency Shelter – ensures that people experiencing homelessness have a safe, warm place to sleep every night. Operating on a rotating basis, there are at least two sites each night, usually a local house of worship, that welcome guests into their facility.  While at the shelter sites, guests receive dinner, camaraderie, breakfast in the morning, and a sack lunch to take with them.

·   Day Resource Center – Where most of our supportive services take place, such as case management, counseling, support groups, and other services to help move individuals into stable permanent housing.

·   Prevention & Diversion Program – Using a “light touch” approach, this program helps people avoid the shelter system, and to find their way back to full housing stability through conflict resolution, mediation, and limited financial assistance.

·   Homeless Healthcare Access Program –addresses clients’ significant health and well-being issues that often lead to homelessness which makes it even more difficult for them to overcome.

·   Permanent Supportive Housing – response to the rising gap in services for individuals with mental illness and the tough barriers to housing experienced through other programs. This program follows a Housing First model, which prioritizes access to permanent housing as quickly as possible for chronically homeless people, those with mental health issues, and disabilities making it tough for them to access other community resources and programs.

·   Outreach – This Program literally “meets people where they are at.” Staff goes into the community to engage with persons experiencing homelessness wherever they may be to provide them with basic support, resources and tools, while encouraging them to get help.
