PMYCS is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization that has been serving the diverse needs of the Patchogue (11772) and Medford (11763) communities since 1982. Our agency has become a fundamental necessity for members of the community. The mission of our agency is to provide support, strength and opportunity for positive growth to youth, their families and the community through education, recreation, intervention and outreach. While our programs stress opportunity for our youth through participation in community activities and the implementation of educational, cultural, recreational, and social programs to encourage, counsel, and foster ideas of concern to the youth of the area, our efforts are not limited to youth alone. Our organization, through its programs seeks to establish a dialogue, provide direction, and foster understanding among all segments of society; to promote ideas, share concerns, and provide constructive avenues in the community to resolve problems through conflict resolution and mutual understanding in a socially acceptable manner. Finally, our organization acts as a conduit between programs offered throughout the community and with all levels of government to provide assistance, counseling, aid, understanding, and support to families and youth in distress and need.

Through a comprehensive array of services and programs, our agency has been able to meet the various needs of the community. Programs and services offered include: after-school psycho-educational/prevention programs in elementary, middle and high schools; youth civic groups; youth development programs; food pantry; clothes closet; individual counseling for youth and adults; homework help; Thanksgiving and Holiday assistance; volunteer opportunities for youth and adults; and various recreational activities including weekly craft, acting, guitar and dance classes and camp during school breaks and the summer. Most of our services are free of charge to all residents of the Patchogue-Medford community and are offered in English and Spanish to meet the needs of our large Hispanic population.

PMYCS provides a variety of programs and services to the youth and adults in the Patchogue-Medford Community. There is a great need in our community for recreational and educational programs and services that benefit our community members, especially the youth. Many of the parents of the youth we serve are employed with one or two jobs and they still struggle to make ends meet. Recreational and educational services that are offered at our center provide a safe place for youth to go after school and during school vacations so kids stay off the streets and stay out of trouble. The need for our services and programs exists more than ever and unfortunately, with the hard economic times, our budget keeps drastically decreasing. PMYCS believes that by creating valuable and enriching programs filled with educational and recreational activities we will help the adults and youth in our community to become well-adjusted individuals. The skills they learn at our center will enable them to make healthy choices throughout their lives.
