People Incorporated was founded in 1969 on the belief that those living with mental illness could be “incorporated” back into society, and society itself could be incorporated into efforts to support these individuals. We believe that mental health is community health. Our teams are integrated into the community, including meeting people in their homes, libraries, schools, and encampments throughout Minnesota. Our mission is to lead our industry in providing a system of care predicated on excellence and inclusivity in behavioral health treatment, community support, and education. We accomplish this through our people, our partnerships, and our passion.

As the state’s largest community-based provider of mental health services, People Incorporated is uniquely able to support individuals in the East Metro facing mental health crises that have some of the most significant barriers to mental wellness. Our approach supports people frequently accessing care through hospital emergency departments, repeat hospitalizations, interactions with law enforcement, etc., and instead finds them safe, affordable, effective care.

Our integrated model ensures clients can seamlessly transition to the next step in their journey with the support they need. Clients can avail themselves of People Incorporated’s array of mental health programs, from traditional outpatient mental health therapy at places like our York Mental Health Clinic in Saint Paul to case management and our crisis and intensive residential services (IRTS), including our newly opened facility near George Floyd Square in Minneapolis. These programs create an alternative to hospitalization and/ or a diversion from incarceration for individuals experiencing severe mental health symptoms.

Community integration is a vital part of overcoming barriers to access. From our embedded mental health workers responding to over 1,000 crisis calls in the Twin Cities to our street outreach team providing on-site assessments in homeless encampments and parks to more than 2,000 individuals and families experiencing homelessness, we are making ourselves available in the community. We anticipate expansion of our community partnerships in 2024, including further expansions with the St. Paul Library System and expanded program availability, including our embedded mental health professionals with the Saint Paul and Roseville Police Departments, helping divert those in crisis from incarceration and/or institutionalization.
