People Serving People is the largest and most comprehensive emergency shelter for families experiencing homelessness in the state of Minnesota and dedicated leader in homelessness prevention. Average length of stay: 46 days. Average age of children staying at PSP: 6 years old.

Our mission: We exist to see families thrive.

Our vision: Healed families. Transformed communities.

Our focus: While families are sheltered at People Serving People, our goal is to help them overcome barriers and find stability. Our focus in the short term, is helping our adult guests move from homelessness to independence. Our long-term focus is preventing and ending family homelessness by providing the children at our shelter — and in the community — opportunities to break the cycles of poverty and homelessness.

What distinguishes us from other emergency shelters is the broad range of on-site programs and services designed to address common barriers faced by families experiencing homelessness, including programs designed to prevent the reoccurrence of homelessness. We help families find ways to overcome these barriers to self-sufficiency through advocacy, employment, education, and parenting programs.
