We value music as a critical learning tool that keeps students engaged in school, helps develop well-rounded individuals and encourages skills that are vital to success in the 21st century.  Research has proven that access to a quality music education:

  • Engages students in the classroom and increases graduation rates
  • Improves early cognitive development, math and reading skills
  • Enhances learning in other core subjects
  • Develops critical thinking and leadership skills
  • Fosters self-esteem and the ability to work cooperatively in teams

Nearly everyone enjoys music, whether by listening to it, singing, or playing an instrument. But despite this almost universal interest, many schools are having to reduce or do away with their music education programs.  The purpose of the Pequannock Township High School Band Parents Association (PTHS BPA) is to raise and support the level of music, music development and music appreciation in Pequannock Township and to advocate for funding on behalf of our entire District music program.  The BPA continues to raise funds to provide technical instructor stipends, instruments and uniforms for participants, financial aid for students in need and numerous scholarships to support continued education. Over the past 5 years, the PTHS BPA has awarded over $20,000 in scholarships to music students for college and over $50,000 toward instructor stipends. Our goals are to maintain and, where possible, increase the number and amount of music scholarships, instructor stipends and music financial aid in conjunction with increasing student participation.
