Hello, I am writing you to request that you consider donating to our non profit charitable regional cat shelter in St. Thomas, Ontario.  We are having our one major annual fundraiser this spring in April. This year we are using the format again of an online auction to reach a wider audience in southwestern Ontario.  We are hoping to get a donation that can be enjoyed by a family. We were fortunate to receive your support again last year in 2018 and are happy to report that your donated prize has continued to be a popular item and we always receive a good value for it.  One of our goals is to educate our supporters on pet care and responsible pet ownership while promoting cultural events and businesses in our area of southwestern Ontario.  We hope that our animal lover supporters will be happy to again bid on prize to go to Medieval Times Toronto!  We would promote Medieval Times with a posting on our webpage and Facebook page.

Thank you kindly for your consideration in donating to our cause.  I am enclosing a copy of our request letter.

Regards,

To Whom it May Concern,

My name is Brenda van den Horn and I am President/Director/ Volunteer at Pets/Friends for Life in St. Thomas, Ontario.  We serve a large area around southwestern Ontario.

Pets/Friends for Life is a non-profit cat shelter for homeless and abandoned cats and kittens. We currently house and care for over 100 cats at our shelter. We provide veterinary care consisting of spaying/neutering, vaccinations and general health care.  In 2018 we were able to find homes for a record 240 cats and kittens!  Above all, we provide a safe and caring environment for these cats/kittens in a roam free facility.

In the late autumn of 2018, the laundry facility in our 100 year old building was failing causing damage to the drains and floors.  Additionally, we needed to replace one of our washing machines that no longer functioned. This meant we had to do significant repairs to the pipes and drains and purchase a new washer!  We hope to recover the significant costs of our emergency construction so that we can continue to look after our feline residents and meet their everyday needs.

Additionally, veterinarian medical costs are higher each year.  Without sufficient funds, we are unable to accept surrendered and abandoned felines.  This puts many cats and kittens at risk of abandonment on the streets.  In 2018 we accepted 277 cats and kittens into our shelter.  Pets/Friends for Life is a no-kill shelter and as a result, many of our cats have been with us for a significant period of time, in some cases several years.  This also increases our veterinarian costs as we look after the longterm health needs of our cats.

We operate solely on donations and fundraisers. We are currently requesting donations of items, coupons, gift certificates, etc. for our major annual fundraiser which this year will be another online event!   Our "Washers for Whiskers!” event will consist of an online Facebook auction over the course of roughly three weeks from April 6-28, 2019 allowing for a wider audience of bidders! The purpose of this event is to raise funds to help secure our ability to continue to care for these cats and to raise public awareness about pet abandonment, pet surrenders and shelter life.  We would appreciate your consideration in a donation of some kind for our purpose. Every penny that is raised goes directly back into the shelter to care for our cats.

If you require any further information or have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me at 519-439-2239 or call the shelter at 519-631-5757.
