Pierce the Darkness ws founded to raise money to fund research to cure or alleviate childhood blindness. The pharmaceutical industry lacks sufficient monetary incentives to study treatments for vision loss. For this reason; much of the work takes place in academic medical reserach centers such as Stanford Medical Center. The problem with this type of research is that these centers lack sufficient funding to come up with effective treatments in a timely fashion. Without additonal funding, it may take decades to come up with treatment options for those facing blindness due to various reasons and circumstances. Through Pierce the Darkness, our goal is to fast-forward this research through philanthropic funding and accredited medical research centers. Our long-term goal is to cure optic nerve damage for all who experience it. The ultimate goal of these donations will result in effective treatments for all of those facing vision loss.
