The Plymouth River School Parent Teacher Organization has existed for over 40 years and operates to enhance the learning and development of PRS students and provide support to members of our PRS community.  We are an all-volunteer, parent run 501c3.  We currently ufnd and organize over 50 events and programs for our students on an annual basis, run after school programming, provide materials and support for our classrooms and teachers, and donate our resources to students and families in need.

Research on elementary education and development is prolific, but certain outcomes remain clear across all spectrums.  We know that children who are exposed to programming that complements classroom learning have better overall mental health, better grades and test scores and better school attendance than their peers who lack these opportunities.  We also know that children who have exposure to cultural enrichment and arts programming have improved engagement in the classroom, higher academic aspirations and higher self-esteem, and show greater open-mindedness than their peers.  We want all of these things adn more for every student that passes through PRS.

In an effort to bolster these outcomes we provide programming and resources that are far-reaching and diverse.  Whether we are exposing students to advanced concepts during our STEAM Week, running our Math Olympics and Mad About Science programming, organizing after-school classes and activities, getting kids outside through garden education adn physical activity, or providing cultural enrichment through our Get Smart About Art program and the more than 20 assemblies, field trips and classroom visits we arrange and fund on an annual basis, we constantly strive to enrich the educational experiences of our students.  And this is only a small sampling of our work.

As an organization, we are also devoted to supporting members of our school community and our broader communities as well.  In an effort to meet the basic needs of all our students, we purchase school supplies, winter wear and snacks for our underprivileged students and fund field trips and after school programming for students who are unable to pay.  We also provide monetary donations to PRS families who need help with groceries or holiday gifts.  And because we as an organization firmly believe that service should extend beyond the walls of our school, we also routinely partner with organizations like Cradles to Crayons, Friends of the Homeless and the Hingham Senior Center so that our students can experience the gift of giving back themselves.

We have hilighted some of our additional work below.

After-school enrichment programming (including sports, foreign languages, drama, reading clubs, chess, cooking, knitting and more), classroom grants, outdoor garden education and presentation fo Harvest Day with food from PRS garden, cultural enrichment performances, classroom visit and assemblies, funded field trips, annual 5k, community service events, Get Smart About Art, donations for families and students in need, Math and Science specific extracurricular programming, school supplies, Book Clubs, Books Fairs and more!
