The Mission of the PKD Foundation (Polycystic Kidney Disease) is to promote programs of research, advocacy, education, support, and awareness in order to discover treatments and a cure for PKD and improve the lives of all it affects. The Walk for PKD is the signature fundraiser event for the Foundation.
I have personally lost 5 family members to PKD before age 54 (including my sister and father). After two years on dialysis, I was given the chance of a new life with a kidney transplant from a coworker in 12/05. With retirement in 2009, I knew it was my "job" to raise awareness for PKD. The walk is on 9/9/17 at OP Schanbel in San Antonio with over 500 attendees. We are seeking donations from the SA Community for incentives, top fundaisers and more. As a longterm member of San Antonio Botanical Garden, I know tickets to the garden would be a great addition.
