Nestled in the foothills, Ponderosa is a unique school which strikes a successful balance of academics, arts, athletics, agriculture and more. Founded in 1963 Ponderosa continues to perform above state levels and has a community feel evidenced by its school spirit and 30+ clubs where every student can find their place to belong, grow, and excel. The Western Accreditation Schools Commission recently bestowed PHS with a 6-year Clear, the highest rating possible and was only 1 of 2 schools.in the state to receive “Highly Effective” in every category and was singled out as an outstanding school.
The Ponderosa High School Foundation was started in 2004 by several caring and interested community members, students and faculty members. After 15 years of service, the organization has distributed and $70,000+ in school mini-grants and scholarships to graduating seniors. The mission of the organization is to enhance the education at Ponderosa High School for every Bruin. This is accomplished by ensuring that grants generated support the depth and breadth of the Bruins' educational needs. Since its inception, the organization has granted needed funds to every department and program at Ponderosa High School, from advanced placement to special needs, from core curriculum to visual and performing arts, career tech education, and athletics.
