As part of the Texas PTA, our mission is to make every child’s potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children.
Pope Elementary is a Title I school – over 70% of our students receive free or reduced lunch, and their parents frequently cannot afford to support normal school programs or extra-curricular activities. Furthermore, budget cuts throughout the state of Texas and in Arlington Independent School District have left our school with less resources to pay for the basic necessities. The Pope Elementary PTA uses funds to cover extra curricular activities and support the day to day logistics of the school in order to ease the burden on the school's budget.
In previous years, the Pope PTA has sponsored programs like educational field trips, transportation to UIL competitions, and the annual Field Day Athletic Competition. In addition, PTA funds have helped to provide the school yearbook, purchased Accelerated Reading library materials, aided in providing college scholarships, purchased track equipment, sponsored community service events, and provided teacher appreciation gifts.
This school year, the Pope PTA has already supported the library in a book drive to earn much needed bilingual books, organized a Grandparents luncheon to encourage familial involvement, provided volunteers to coordinate the Thanksgiving and Holiday celebrations, and cleaned up the school grounds. With the funds we raise for the remainder of the year, we hope to renevate the deteriorating basketball court on our playground and pay the transportation and admittance costs for the educational field trips for the over 550 students in Kindergarten through Sixth Grade.
