Mebae Kindergarten was founded in 1988 under the auspices of the Port of Sacramento Japanese School. Since then, children from the Greater Sacramento region have come to us to experience and learn Japanese language and culture.
Over the 35 years, our kindergarten program has become an integral part of the community providing early childhood education in Japanese language. We fully provide our lessons and materials in Japanese. This helps ensure readiness and smooth transitions for our students who eventually return to Japan. Children at Mebae Kindergarten are also immersed in Japanese traditions to help them understand their heritage and shape their own identity. The students and their families participate in seasonal events such as “Undoukai” (Japanese Sports Day).
