Founded in 190, PCHAS is a non-profit organziation which was created to respond to the crisis of orphaned children due to the tuberculosis epidemic. PCHAS began serving the San Antonio community in 1976 with a home for orphaned boys. Our programs have evolved and changed over the years to better serve the needs of children today, but our mission remains the same.
Mission: We provide Christ-centered care and support to children and families in need.
Vision: PCHAS believes the most powerful way to help children is by strengthening their families. We accomplish this by living into our phiilosophy of care which is family-centered, strength focused and goal driven.
We strive to strenthen San Antonio families so that children will have permanent homes and families will find self-sufficiency. Our local programs aer aimed at preventing children from entering the foster care system and nurturing safe, loving homes where San Antonio Families can thrive.
Single Parent Family: This program provides 16 struggling single parents and their children with housing, financial an emotional support, therapy and services that promote self-sufficiency. It offers parents in residence temporary assistanace with day care and pre-school.
Transitional Living: This program provides structure and nurture to assist 18-25 year old young adults, many of whom have aged out of the foster care system, as they grow into independent adults with sustainable plans for the future.
Child & family: This in-home family preservation program stabilizes families during a crisis such as poverty, abuse, neglect, or homelessness.
