Profound Ladies is a local nonprofit organization working to recruit and retain Black, Indigenous, Women of Color educators and then equip those women with the mentorship, training, leadership and career development pathways so their students will experience the impact of a thriving woman of color leading in classrooms, schools, and communities.

We have more than tripled our membership since inception in April 2020. We now serve more than 80 members in 10 different counties in North Carolina including: Durham, Wake, Cumberland, Edgecombe, Guilford, Hertford, Mecklenburg, Nash, Pitt, Wilson. Current women of color educators have the opportunity to join Profound Ladies, granting them access to a broader community and soon a digital library of resources.

Impact Leaders are at the core of our community, they guide and mentor members through the development and execution of their goals using an Impact Development Plan (IDP). Members receive at least 20 hours of 1:1 coaching to support actualizing their IDP. The personal experiences of our Impact Leaders, all BIPOC educators, and Onward: Cultivating Emotional Resilience in Educators, the framework by Elena Aguilar, shape this model and the coaching.

Profound Ladies programming beyond the personal coaching, includes events, digital resources, and professional development opportunities related to culturally relevant curriculum design, antiracist classroom management practices, student engagement surrounding social & educational justice issues, and social-emotional learning for educators. Our programming also includes community-building activities, such as film screenings, book studies, member retreats, and civic engagement activities, so teachers operate as educational leaders and advocates both in and outside the classroom.

When women of color educators are supported, they can continue to educate and lead in our school systems. The work of Profound Ladies leads to equity in education, the dissolution of the school-to-prison pipeline, and increased social justice and racial equity.
