Project Understanding is a local 501c3 charity that’s mission is to alleviate poverty and bridge the gaps for those in need by providing food, housing assistance, tutoring, and supportive services to the most vulnerable residents in Ventura County.  Through collaboration, we empower, and assist people to reach their highest attainable level of independence.

Your sponsorship will help us continue our mission and will assist the most at-risk residents in Ventura County.

100% of proceeds of this event will go directly to program services to fund case management for our First Step program, our Tutoring Centers, our Food Pantry, and Homeless prevention and assistance.

In our First Step Program, we work one-on-one with our clients and with our community partners to help these chronically homeless to overcome all obstacles to homelessness by assessing and addressing the barriers they have to finding housing. From health, finances, personal goals and support system – each piece of the puzzle is essential to help each referral find and remained housed.

In our Tutoring Program, we provide one-on-one assistance to help raise academic achievement among 300 low-income, struggling elementary-age students a year through 8-10 locations throughout Ventura County.

In our food pantry, as a solution to help fight again hunger in Ventura County, our Food Pantry Program provides immediate, emergency food to the most vulnerable population of Ventura County – individuals and families in-need from throughout the community and to the homeless in our Homeless to Home program. We serve on average 25,000 meals each month – impacting on average 2,500 individuals or 600 families a month.  The Food Pantry at Project Understanding provides groceries twice a month to families whose budget cannot support the purchase of their own. We have open hours throughout the week where families can come and pick up food and supplies such as hygiene kits and diapers relating to their family’s needs.
