Hesed House is a national model for ending homelessness – one person, one family at a time. It is the culmination of nearly four decades of strategic evolution from a formerly acceptable model of “ eats and sheets ” to a comprehensive resource center for the homeless – a campus of centralized, highly skilled professionals collaborating to provide the tools necessary to help individuals and families break free of the shackles binding them to homelessness. Hesed House’ s mission is to feed the hungry, clothe the naked, shelter the homeless, and give people the chance to hope again. Hesed House is the only emergency shelter in Southern Kane County and and the only emergency shelter serving Kendall County seven days a week, 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, Hesed House has become an integral part of this community. Hesed House is one of the area’s largest social service agencies, the second largest homeless shelter in the State of Illinois, and we alone have the most unique and distinctive collaboration of services to help the poorest residents of the Greater Fox Valley Area regain independence in their lives.

We currently utilize 8 programs to provide a continuum of care for our most vulnerable neighbors.

  • PADS Overnight Emergency Shelter: provides food and shelter to over 155 individuals every night
  • PADS AM: offers daytime refuge, paired with opportunities for self-enhancement and connection to supportive services for over 100 PADS guests daily
  • PADS Family Shelter: provides 24/7/365 family-only space, allowing children and families to live separately from the single homeless adults staying at PADS Overnight Emergency Shelter
  • The Harbor Permanent Supportive Housing Program:provides on-site studio apartments with 24-hour staff support for up to 16 chronically homeless individuals with a disabling condition(s)
  • SEEDS Case Management: housing focused case managers work one-on-one with PADS guests to overcome and remove barriers that are hindering their return to permanent housing and self-sufficiency
  • LIGHT-House Permanent Supportive Housing: addresses the needs of the chronically homeless persons with disabling conditions by facilitating their move into permanent housing and by providing them with both case management and the whole range of supportive services needed to thrive successfully in their community
  • Carpenter's Homeless Prevention: focuses on stabilizing households that are on the verge of homelessness. Case management and financial assistance are focused on preventing the precariously housed from falling into homelessness, and helping them achieve housing stability
  • LEAP Advocacy: seeks justice for vulnerable, marginalized, and oppressed individuals and families in poverty by identifying and addressing both the systemic and root causes of poverty and homelessness
