I'm a mathematics teacher and coach at Palisades Park High School who started a charity named Purses with Purpose about 10 years ago. In the beginning we collected new and slightly used purses and toiletries and assembled the bags with the small items and delivered them to a local battered women's shelter. The year before Covid we were able to collect over 500 purses.
In turn for this accomplishment, The Center for Hope and Safety (the organization my charity donates to) allowed me to use their tax exempt number to actually raise monetary donations as many people were asking if they could give me money instead of items. For the past two years I’ve hosted a brunch to raise money and this brunch slowly morphed into a tricky tray. The first year was a great success and the second was even better. Over 125 people attended last year and we were able to raise over $8000.
