Reach Out’s mission is to strengthen communities by bringing people together to solve our region’s toughest issues: breaking barriers to educational achievement, expanding economic opportunities, and creating safe, healthy and innovative communities.

Under the Youth and Family Wellness Department there are two programs that are provided to the community

The Nurturing Families Program (NFP) is an evidenced-based parenting curriculum focused on parents with children 0-5 or those who are expecting with positive parenting techniques to help strengthen their families. The NFP consists of a series of classes for parents and children to attend together, lasting on average 12 - 16 weeks. Sessions are highly structured, providing a sense of predictability. Structured child care is provided and designed to complement the parent’s lessons of the day. Parents and children learn through music and movement, psychodrama and role-playing, discussion, audiovisuals, art, games, sharing food, infant massage and other nurturing touch experiences.

The mothers receive guidance and tools to enable them to stay attuned to their mental health, monitor symptoms of post-partum depression, and develop a healthy relationship with their newborn. Participants said they felt emotionally supported, despite having to attend classes via Zoom due to COVID-19 restrictions.
