About the H.S.A. - Building a Partnership with Parents and Staff

The H.S.A. is a non-profit organization developed to foster effective communication between the parents and staff of the Readington Township Schools and to enhance the social and educational benefits our children receive in the school district.  The H.S.A. is able to function independently and be totally responsive to the individuals with the greatest interest in its work: the parents, staff and students of the Readington Township Schools.

Why not a P.T.A. or a P.T.O.?  Actually, the Readington H.S.A.is a P.T.O! P.T.O. is a generic term that covers groups that operate under their own bylaws and, in large, concern themselves with the goings-on at their building or in their town only. The national P.T.A. is a formal membership organization headquartered in Chicago. Local groups that choose to belong to the P.T.A. must pay dues to the state and national organization and abide by state and national group rules. In return, they get member benefits and a voice in the operations of the larger organization.  The debate between the two forms of organization has been simple to frame: Do we want to be part of something larger and spend our group dollars outside of our school? Or do we want to focus exclusively on improving and creating community at our school?

The founders of the Readington H.S.A. choose the latter. As a result, the H.S.A. is able to function independently and be totally responsive to the individuals with the greatest interest in its work: the parents, staff and students of the Readington Township Schools.
