Hasbro Children’s Hospital, the pediatric division of Rhode Island Hospital, opened its doors to
patients nearly 25 years ago. With 87 dedicated pediatric beds across six floors, the hospital offers a
full spectrum of pediatric services and programs. Each year, the hospital cares for more than 5,600
inpatients and more than 75,000 outpatients. It has the only pediatric emergency department and
designated Pediatric Level 1 trauma and burn center in southeastern New England, as well as the
only Center for Pediatric Imaging and Sedation, and pediatric critical care team. Our Emergency
Department serves the needs of young trauma patients, as well as children needing less acute care,
and sees as many as 55,000 patients annually– one of the busiest in the country. It is staffed around
the clock by specialists trained in emergency medicine and other pediatric subspecialties, including
pediatric psychiatry, where there is a growing need.

Rhode Island Hospital was founded in 1863 and is the largest hospital in the state –the third largest
in New England– and is a nationally and internationally-recognized academic medical center. It was
founded more than 150 years ago with the intention to provide medical care for all of the state’s
residents, regardless of their ability to pay, and it retains that mandate to this day. In Fiscal Year
2017, Rhode Island Hospital and Hasbro Children Hospital provided more than $131 million in
charity care and other community benefits.

A partner in the Lifespan health system, Hasbro Children’s Hospital is also the principal pediatric
teaching hospital of The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, offering highly soughtafter
residency, surgery residency, and fellowship programs.
