Founded in 1973 by six faculty members of the University of California-Riverside, RARCC began as a movement to provide advocacy for victims of sexual assault. The organization was founded to fill gaps where survivors of sexual assault were not being served by existing institutions.  Medical professionals were concerned primarily with direct medical efforts, law enforcement was consumed with apprehending perpetrators, and the overall legal system was designed to prosecute criminals, leaving victims with little to no collective support network focused on healing. Each of these is important, but RARCC's founders saw that the institutional response to an incident of sexual assault could be discouraging, alienating, and lonely for survivors who were already experiencing the traumatic effects of the assault itself. RARCC has been a unique service provider delivering comprehensive high quality mental health care and supportive services to Western and Southwest Riverside County 24/7 without charge to those in need.  Since inception, RARCC puts a special focus on serving and understanding the most critical needs of under resourced and marginalized populations.
