Rowe PTA's overall purpose is to make every child's potential a reality by engaging and empowering families and communities to advocate for all children. Core values include collaboration, commitment, accountability, respect, inclusivity, and integrity.
The uniquely difficult nature of Middle School and the physiological changes of early adolescence create particularly trying times for most children. The rush toward independence and hormonal changes lead to increased difficulty in personal awareness, social interaction, and increased anxiety. As a result, students at this period are pushing away from parents and peers who were once identified as friends just as the increased difficulties of life indicate the value of a supportive emotional network.
The members of Rowe PTA recognize this period as particularly difficult to children, parents, siblings, teachers, and administrators. We feel that by strengthening the sense of community we encourage redevelopment of strong emotional support networks. By integrating home life with school life through the bridge of PTA and Community, we feel that the struggles will be lessened. Further, that the longer we can remain a presence as an organization in the lives of the students as they pass through Middle School, the more we can encourage success that will breed ever greater future success.
In short, we think by participating in the lives of the children, we will make their lives and our lives better through a strong sense of community.
We directly serve approximately 1/4 of the our local district's Middle School students; thus approximately 750 students. Approximately 70% of those students live below the Federal Poverty level. Approximately 46% of students identify as minority students. Approximately 28% of the students utilize Special Education Services. Ages represented range from 10-14, typically.
Rowe PTA meets monthly to encourage active participation within the school community. We participate in the school during the school day as volunteers, chaperone field trips and social events. We act as officials during Cross Country and Track meets, sponsor social events, encourage school spirit through custom shirt designs, empower students by providing grants to student groups and teacher programs. We raise funds through Drink Container Deposit Recycling, Raffles, and Special Benefit events.
We actively engage businesses to become Community Partners and become aware of and involved in the Rowe School Community. We seek to supplement the meager resources of the families in our area by engaging outside sources. We conduct outreach through email, social media, and directed weekly Newletters. We feature in our Weekly Newsletter, a Volunteer, an Educator, and a Community Partner. We provide scholarships to enable families to participate in social events, PTA Membership, Yearbook participation, and other activities that are cost prohibitive for struggling families.
Rowe PTA needs the help of Community Partners like you. We ask ourselves, "How Can I Help?" We would also like you to ask, "How can WE Help?"
