Our Mission:
Safe Animal Shelter is a nonprofit organization working to reduce the number of cats and dogs euthanized in Clay County, Duval County, Northeast Florida and the surrounding areas.
Our Vision:
We envision a community in which all companion animals have loving homes and are treated with compassion and respect.
Who We Are:
Safe Animal Shelter became Clay County’s first no-kill shelter in 1991 to provide housing for more homeless pets in the community until they could find a forever home.

We are registered as a 501 (c) (3) non-profit corporation with the state of Florida. EIN# 593054559

All services we provide the community are funded by individual and business donations, grants from charitable foundations, pet adoption fees, and fund-raising activities held throughout each year.

We measure our success by maximizing the number of loving families who adopt pets from us. Since inception, we have provided loving care to over 18,000 cats and dogs until they were adopted into loving homes.

We continue to strive toward the goal of a no-kill community and state through adoption, pet retention, rescue partnerships, and medical services. Each pet we adopt to a forever family opens space to save another homeless cat or dog. We encourage you to consider us when looking for your next family pet.

We encourage and promote spaying and neutering as the only effective approach to reducing the pet overpopulation problem. In compliance with state law and as a matter of principle, we spay and neuter all pets prior to adoption. All rescued animals that enter Safe Animal Shelter are provided food, shelter, loving care, attention, socialization, recreation, exercise, and quality medical treatment. That includes spay/neuter surgery, vaccinations, and heartworm testing. If heartworm-positive, pets are usually put through treatment before adoption. All dogs and cats are microchipped for their safety and their future owner’s convenience.
