SFFC started as an idea in 1996 in Chicago, Illinois after Dave Anderson saw a need during his doctoral research after working most of his life with families involved in the foster care system. After much prayer and direction, Dr. Anderson decided to move forward with this idea that was planted in his heart.

The idea was to keep children safe while also assisting parents through crises and reduce the chances for foster care. After getting the blessing from Mayor Daley and Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), in 2003, Dr. Anderson began what is now, Safe Families for Children. If you are not familiar with Safe Families, we are a volunteer-driven nonprofit that provides hope and support to families in crisis by surrounding them with a caring, compassionate community.  There are 3 main objectives:

1) keeping children safe

2) supporting, stabilizing, and strengthening families

3) keeping families together

A typical engagement is a family facing crisis - homelessness, leaving a domestic violence situation, loss of employment, etc.  Our first priority is the children and making sure they are safe, often placing them with a Host Family to keep them safe while the parent (or parents) stabilize.  The parent (or parents) is surrounded with a community to support them getting back on their feet (Family Coaches and Family Friends), including connecting with community resources, mentoring, budgeting, etc.  When the home is stabilized, the children are returned.

Volunteers, assist in; time, money, resources, stability, transportation, etc. The many volunteers range from; host family, family coach, intake, administrative and several other ways. Volunteers range throughout the United States, including Alaska, Canada and the United Kingdom. There are over 108+ chapters in the US and there are over 4600+ churches that also partner with SFFC.

Locally, the SFFC DFW chapter launched in 2019 and is centrally located in Arlington, Texas and serving all of DFW.  Our chapter director, Lori Key, staff and SEVERAL volunteers have the heart and drive to help as many families in crisis as possible.

Our goal is to raise $200,000.00 this year and with your support and contribution this can easily be accomplished! Your donation would contribute to raising funds to provide additional assistance to the local DFW chapter; to serve and support more DFW families.

Thank you for your consideration in donating to us. Safe Families for Children DFW is a registered 501(c)(3) organization in the United States. All donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by the law.
