The mission of the San Diego Chinese Historical Society and Museum is to educate and inspire by preserving and celebrating the richness of Chinese art, history, and culture, highlighting the contributions of Chinese-Americans to the San Diego region and across the Californias. Our primary location is a former Mission building, which was built in 1927 to house the Chinese Mission of the First Congregationalist Church. After saving this historic structure through a community-based effort that initiated in the 1980's, we relocated and restored it at is current site (404 Third Avenue in downtown San Diego), opening to the public as a museum in 1996.
