The San Diego Diplomacy Council (SDDC) creates inclusive professional, cultural, and educational experiences that connect local and global changemakers, fostering convergence in a divergent world. For over 45 years, SDDC has worked to connect San Diego leaders and changemakers with their global counterparts to share best practices, promote mutual understanding, and create a more peaceful, prosperous world. In 2024, we hosted 673 international leaders from 124 countries on 56 programs in San Diego across sectors, primarily through U.S. Department of State professional exchange programs such as the International Visitor Leadership Program (IVLP). We estimate a local economic impact of our work to be over $2.5M to San Diego. We also host public events across San Diego, have a “pay-what-you-can” membership model so that people from across our county can attend our events for free, interact with our international leaders, and serve as citizen diplomats. We also organize outbound citizen diplomacy trips and high school programs, which allow San Diego high school students, especially underserved youth, to gain exposure to educational and career pathways in international affairs, international business, and diplomacy.
