The San Diego Freedom Ranch was established in 1972 as the Indian Growth Center, mainly providing services to the Native American population in Campo. Since then it has broadened its scope to provide services to males 18+ that suffer from addiction and was renamed the San Diego Freedom Ranch. Since 1978 and without interruption, the Freedom Ranch has been contracted with the County of San Diego as a Drug and Alcohol Service.

In its 52-year history, the Freedom Ranch has assisted over 12,000 clients begin their journey on the road to recovery. As a nonprofit, it provides services to all those that suffer regardless of their ability to pay for services. Over the years, the Freedom Ranch has adapted to the many changes in addiction treatment and stands at the forefront in providing services to the East County Region and especially the rural backcountry. As a residential treatment and detoxification facility, the Freedom Ranch provides Room & Board, Groups, Classes, Meetings, Medication Assisted Treatment, and Social Support services to clients.

Today, the Ranch operates a 56-bed facility on its 300+ acre campus in Campo. Community needs exceeds capacity, and the Ranch is in the midst of fundraising to double its capacity to serve the greater community.
