San Diego Musical Theatre (SDMT) was founded in 2006 by Erin and Gary Lewis, and is the longest running, year-round musical theatre organization in San Diego. Our mission is driven by a passion for musical theatre and a passion to pass this American tradition on to the next generation, by producing musicals that ignite the human spirit. As an arts nonprofit, SDMT provides a home for over four hundred artists annually such as actors, directors, designers, musicians, creatives and crew. The staff of SDMT and the actors who perform in the theatre are committed to providing Broadway-quality musical theatre experiences for our audiences, keeping musical theatre thriving in San Diego.
Musical Theatre, like Jazz, is a truly American artform that should be nurtured and supported for future generations. That is why SDMT is also passionate about arts education, with SDMT Academy offering musical theatre education for ages five to seventeen, pre-professional training for young artists and workshops for adults. Our arts education program provides a space to learn about musical theatre, to hone your craft as an artist and to remain competitive in an industry based on auditioning. SDMT Academy also offers a place for people to find other people with common interests in an inclusive environment, creating community and connection.
