The Santa Cruz County Chapter of the San Jose State University Alumni Association goal is to grant scholarships to outstanding students from our eight local high schools and Cabrillo College.  Here are some of our scholarship awardees:

Nate maintained a high GPA at Aptos High while also playing soccer – and running his own business - which he started at 13!  He is planning on majoring in Interdisciplinary Engineering at SJSU.  It will be interesting to see what he creates next.

Laura is a transfer student from Cabrillo College who also works in a program for low-income families with very young children.  Her passion for this kind of work has pointed her in the direction of majoring in Social Work at SJSU when she arrives this Fall.

Elin graduated from Scotts Valley high last Spring and is now entering SJSU as a Justice Studies major, so he can follow several relatives into law enforcement.  While in high school, he put the ‘student’ in ‘student-athlete’ by challenging himself to take tough classes while also playing baseball for Scotts Valley High.

Luke bought himself a computer after his sophomore year at SLV High, but not just to use it like most of us do – he spent time learning to program it – when he was not playing football, tutoring middle school students with learning disabilities and working part time. His passion for computers brought him to a major in Computer Engineering, which he began at SJSU in 2021, and is successfully working toward today.

Five of our scholarship students have graduated in the past year:

·        Michelle and Natalia graduated Magna Cum Laude.

·        Melissa graduated Summa Cum Laude.

·        Gabby completed her degree in Materials Engineering and is headed into a graduate program.

·        Alex is taking his Civil Engineering degree to a job with Granite Construction in Watsonville.

One of our past scholarship recipients, Kendra, is now teaching at Scotts Valley High and was named Woman of the Year in Scotts Valley this year.

We believe that our policy of staying in touch with our scholarship students - by providing information, guidance, and mentoring - helps them reach graduation. Indeed, for the last 40 years, over 90% of our scholars have completed their degrees. We’d love to have your help in supporting this successful program. As a donor, you will be acknowledged and thanked at the auction, and you will be recognized in our program and alumni newsletter
