The School for Young Children provides an outstanding elementary education to children who are experiencing language and learning disabilities. The goal of the program is to maximize the academic and social skills of each child, while developing confidence and a sense of positive self-worth. The School for Young Children was founded in 1983 by Dr. Ruth Strudler, dean emeritus of the University of St. Thomas College of Education.
The Annual Auction at The Junior League of Houston is the major fund-raiser for the School which serves children with language based learning differences. The Silent and Live Auctions raise funds to enhance the educational experience for the children, including the Arts, P.E., and outside activities like field trips. The Auction supports teacher development and other major unforeseen expenses not included in the tuition.
