The Consensus Organizing Center, a nonprofit organization and project of the School of Social Work at San Diego State University, operates The Step Up Program, which helps marginalized and underrepresented youth from City Heights achieve higher education. We will celebrate 22 years of work and progress with a fundraising event called Cheers To Education and we are requesting support from you.
Cheers To Education will help fund our college-access program that aims to engage, educate, and empower underserved high school students to achieve a post-secondary education and develop the practical skills needed to solve social problems in their neighborhoods. The students selected to be a part of this The Step Up Program are enrolled in Social Work 120: Introduction to Social Work course at SDSU, for which students receive 3.0 general college course credits. Students also participate in 40 hours of community service that incorporates the premise of community-based learning. This provides them with the opportunity to link their work in the community with what they have learned in the classroom. Students are then assisted throughout their senior year in researching colleges, applying for scholarships and financial aid, and transitioning into college successfully. With your help, we are able to provide college access for students who never thought it was possible.
With the financial support of donors in the past, 775 youth have successfully completed our programs and continued on to college. Our goal for this event is to raise money through raffle ticket sales and a silent auction for program support. This fundraiser will help us pay for scholarships, tuition fees, school supplies, and other support services for the Step Up program. We graciously ask for any amount or type of donation from your business. All of our sponsors will be highlighted on our invitation, program, email list server, and social media.
