With the loss of vision comes the frustration of no longer being able to perform daily tasks. You can no longer read the buttons on a phone, see the outlet to safely plug in an appliance, jot down a phone number, sew on a button, or navigate your living room without banging your shin.
When each day is filled with frustration and simple tasks become difficult chores, your confidence plummets and you constrict your activities. Soon you become more and more isolated.
Along with simple tasks, you lose the freedom to drive. Even walking out your front door can mean dangerous hazards -- from tripping over an obstacle to walking into traffic.
Studies show vision loss leads to depression, decreased quality of life and cognitive decline.
Second Sense changes that. Our clients learn the skills to perform daily task in new ways, to continue their favorite hobbies, to use technology as a tool of independence and to travel independently. Our programs in Independent Living Skills, Support Services, Orientation and Mobility, and Adaptive Technology have a direct and immediate impact on the quality of our clients' lives, empower our clients and encourage them to take control of their lives, not become dependent upon our services.
Each year our team of Vision Rehabilitation professional teach 650 adults with vision loss how to regain control of their lives, build their confidence and find a new sense of purpose. We invite you to join us in our mission.
