Seniors in Service works with some of the most vulnerable populations: children and the elderly. Seniors in Service consists of two volunteer programs, Senior Companion, and Foster Grandparent Program, with all volunteers aged 55+ years. Many of the senior volunteers receive a federal stipend for the hours they volunteer, and all volunteers receive mileage. Many seniors in our community are on a fixed income and benefit from their monthly stipend for unplanned expenses and saving purposes.

Senior Companion Program volunteers, age 55 and older, provide basic social supports to seniors over the age of 60 years old. The seniors who receive volunteer services generally live alone, need respite care, have limited access to outside resources, and lack social support. Volunteer services may include taking clients to medical appointments, grocery shopping, running errands, socializing, or engaging in fun activities.

Foster Grandparent Program places senior volunteers, 55 years and older, in supervised settings within K-12 schools, public agencies, family drug court, juvenile detention, etc. with the goal of helping at-risk children meet academic standards as well as providing positive intergenerational social interaction.
