Shakespeare by the Sea's (SBTS) mission is to bring contemporary and classical works to underserved, culturally diverse audiences in order to ignite imagination, encourage artistic expression, and to make theatre accessible to all.

By producing theatre, we aim to explore the truth of the human spirit through texts, affording each individual actor and audience member an unparalleled intellectual and emotional encounter, and communities the opportunity to engage in live, shared, present experiences.

SBTS’s overall goal is to serve as a creative arts institution for youth and adults in communities that have little or no cultural centers or programs.

We annually present a 6-10 week season of Admission-FREE Shakespeare. We start in San Pedro and then take our productions on tour to Hermosa Beach, Rancho Palos Verdes, Manhattan Beach, Encino, Mission Viejo, Rossmoor, Lakewood, Whittier, South Pasadena, and other locales. These admission-free productions present work that is both spectacular and profound; providing intellectual enlightenment, and community engagement in the diverse cultural life of the City, while growing the next generation of Artists and Arts supporters.
