S.A.R.G., a 501(c)3 organization, was formed in January, 1996, and is dedicated and committed to giving animals from the Oak Ridge Animal Shelter a second chance at life.
All S.A.R.G. animals are selected based on temperament, health and adoptability. Each is screened for health problems, and only those free of contagious diseases are rescued and taken to our veterinarian for spaying/neutering and vaccinations. Cats are checked for feline leukemia, and dogs are tested for heartworm. Dogs testing positive will be given the necessary treatment prior to adoption.
An adoption application is required for all animals and is reviewed by the adoption committee. An adoption fee is required to help offset veterinary costs. To help keep costs as low as possible, S.A.R.G. will have various fundraisers throughout the year.
Donations and memorials for family, friends or pets are gratefully accepted and may be mailed to S.A.R.G., 124 Newell Lane, Oak Ridge, TN 37830. All donations and memorials are tax-deductible and will be acknowledged in our newsletter, which is published quarterly.
S.A.R.G. not only rescues cats and mixed-breed dogs and holds them until adoption, but also networks with pure-breed rescue clubs to move the dogs straight into their breed rescue program. Often S.A.R.G. rescues the dog and arranges for the necessary health treatment and transportation. For others, when the breed rescue club is notified that one of their breed is in the shelter, that group will come in and adopt the dog. Either way, it means an animal's life is saved, and a space is made available at the shelter for another animal.
