SheNYC Arts' (SheATL) mission is to support the creation and production of meaningful and powerful works by marginalized gender artists, including cis women and trans and non-binary people. We work to promote the inclusion of theatrical works by marginalized gender people into the mainstream, helping to mold the future of theatrical voices and ensuring that stories by every type of person are told. SheATL knows that producing theater by marginalized gender artists is imperative to the world's collective artistic livelihood and agency. We fight for equal opportunity, access, pay, and representation of marginalized gender creatives nationwide.
Our programming commits to this mission by giving marginalized gender writers, directors, and producers the freedom and agency to produce their new works—without having to raise all the money that would normally go into the process of running a show off-Broadway. Our commitment to empowering marginalized gender theater-makers includes assigning a mentor to each creative team, ensuring that the process is educational and fulfilling, and leaves all our participants with the skills they need to have long and successful careers in the arts.
