Mission Statement:
The Sherman Lake YMCA Outdoor Center puts Honesty, Caring, Respect and Responsibility into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.
Our History:
Created in 1994, Sherman Lake YMCA Outdoor Center was the result o a unique collaboration between the YMCAs of Calhoun and Kalamazoo counties to create an independent YMCA Camping and Retreat Center - one that would serve children, teens, families, seniors and special needs populations in Southwest Michigan. Since the very beginning, Sherman Lake YMCA Outdoor Center has focused on character. We believe that building a culture of character creates a stronger child, which leads to stronger schools and communities. Honesty, Caring, Respect and Responsibility (HCRR) are the core values that the Sherman Lake YMCA lives by and believes in. We serve approximately 5,000 children each year in our Integrated Education schools program, with another 2,500 attending summer camp. Our numbers grow to more than 20,000 when we include the Austenfeld Recreation Center, retreats groups and special events.
