Sherman Elementary is a public school in San Francisco’s Cow Hollow neighborhood that has been educating San Francisco children since 1892! Each year, Sherman’s Parent Teacher Association (PTA) must raise approximately $280,000 from private sources to supplement the District’s site budget and provide additional programs and resources for Sherman’s staff and students. In any given year, this may include smaller class sizes, literacy and math specialists, a social worker, art and dance instruction, library and technology resources, garden education, recess monitors, classroom supplies and training for teachers. Fundraising in recent years has become even more critical, given the SFUSD budget shortfalls and drop in overall attendance which impacts the site budget.
