The Showboat Community Theatre is a historic theater built in 1934. It has been an active part of the community since it was donated to the town of Hermann in 1984, and since then has been volunteer-run and provides counltess free and low-cost events for community members. The goal of the Showboat is to provide performing arts opportunities to members of the rural Hermann community and to partner with other organizations to bring educational theater opportunities to local students. For example, this year, the Showboat has educational theater programming from the Half Act Theatre Company throughout the summer, and the Showboat is participating in the brand new Riverside Theatre Project, which is a cross-community collaboration designed to encourage rural and urban theater artists to engage. As the organization grows, the Showboat aims to tap into the rich arts history of the town of Hermann while fostering, creating, and celebrating art.
