The Association for Public Interest Law (“APIL”) is composed of SMU Dedman School of Law students who wish to dedicate their lives to public service. Each year, we raise money to benefit SMU law students who take unpaid public sector work over the summer. APIL serves many purposes including:
- Raising awareness of the public sector and pro bono work through panels and community events;
- Helping students explore the ways in which attorneys address social issues and effectuate change; and
- Raising money to provide stipends for outstanding law students who have secured volunteer legal placements
We need your help and generosity to support our students’ work in the local community. Public interest internship stipends are of great philanthropic value. The stipends we fund not only allow future lawyers to gain community-minded experience and training, but also provide much needed legal assistance to charitable organizations and their clients. Many of the recipients of these prestigious stipends will devote their careers to public interest work.
Please help us meet our fundraising goal of providing 30 stipends by attending or donating to our annual auction, which will be held on Thursday, March 6, 2025, at the Perot Museum of Nature and Science. The auction will be open to the public and attended by members of the Dallas legal community, as well as SMU Law faculty, staff, and students. The event includes a silent auction, food, drinks, and fun. Any donation of product or services from your business would be greatly appreciated.
SMU is a 501(c)(3) organization and all donations are tax deductible (Tax ID #75-0800689). We thank you in advance for your support and appreciate anything you can contribute to this worthwhile effort.
