Founded in 2013, Sparrow's Nest of the Hudson Valley cooks and delivers homemade meals to the families of caregivers and children facing a cancer diagnosis in Dutchess, Ulster, and parts of Orange, Ulster, and Northern Westchester counties. Mondays are cook days- we make 2 homemade meals and dessert with the help of 7 volunteers and businesses that come in to sponsor making a dessert. Tuesdays are delivery days- we have volunteer drivers in all 5 counties that deliver the meals to the doorsteps of our recipients and their families.
Our charity feeds an average of 400 people EVERY week. Qualified individuals are never turned away and our mission will expand in 2024 to feed ALL individuals and their families with a cancer diagnosis not just those families with children 18 and under living in the home.
In addition to delivering 2 homemade meals EVERY week we also offer the following services to our famlies:
Supplemental Food Program- provides extra groceries, in addition to weekly meals to our families identified as high risk or low income.
Aftercare Program- provides for the continued delivery of homemade meals to our families for up to 1 year after the loss of a loved one due to their cancer diagnosis.
Camp Sparrow Program-provides families with easy lunch meals, fresh fruit & veggies, and snacks during the Summer months when children are home from school.
