Established in 1984 as the first public school foundation in the state of Missouri, the Special Education Foundation (SEF) provides support and assistance to the more than 24,000 students – or one out of six public school students in St. Louis County - who receive special education services from Special School District (SSD). SSD serves children and
youth with mild to severe disabilities, ages 3 to 21, in all 22 partner districts throughout the county, as well as five SSD schools and two technical high schools. Although the scope of SSD’s services is enormous, the mission of SEF is simple: to enrich the lives of children with disabilities through programs, support, and services not provided by tax dollars; to help students succeed in and beyond the classroom.
