Spread the Word Nevada is dedicated to advancing childhood literacy within low-income communities by changing lives one book at a time. When kids read,
they succeed. Books are truly magical. The goal of Spread the Word Nevada is to promote literacy and to make it possible for all of Nevada’s children to experience the magic of books.
Programs:
Kids to Kids: Allows us to put books into the hands and homes of at-risk children. Each month of the school year, our team delivers a book to every student at all of our adopted schools to help build their home libraries.
Family Literacy Program: The goal of this program is to demonstrate the importance of reading as a family. Each program consists of a light snack, story time, prizes, and most importantly the opportunity for both children and parents to select a book to take home with them.
Books and Buddies: These centers were developed to improve the reading and comprehension skills of at-risk children by partnering them with bolunteer mentors. Mentors provide their "buddy" individualized attention to enhance literacy skills which are, unfortunately, often absent from the child's home environment.
Readers in Training: Helps to propel kindergarten readiness by mailing age-appropriate books and reading tips each month to families in need that have enrolled their 0-5 year old children in the program.
