The SAA is a community based, non-profit organization that promotes and supports the visual arts, provides art education opportunities for the greater Springfield area, and preserves and interprets historic Edwards Place an the collections of the SAA.

What We Do:

  • Offer community art classes and summer art camp, as well as scholarships for the community at any age
  • Maintain and provide public tours of Edwards Place, a historically significant Italianate mansion on the National Historic Register that is the oldest house in Springfield, IL
  • Represent local artists in the SAA Collective
  • Present curated exhibitions of work by recognized artists in our M.G. Nelson Family Gallery
  • Make publicly available 3,000+ art books and thought-provoking lectures through the Michael Victor II art Library
  • Provide Art Outreach, an art appreciation program for area schools which reach 8,000 students monthly
  • Serve more than 98,000 people with high-quality programs and events such as the Film Festival, the Fine Art Fair, Roasted Hot Pots + Picnic, and Paint the Street.

Who We Are:

  • The organization is governed by 25 members of Board of Directors
  • Our dynamic staff designs and implements our programming to engage, educate, and inspire.
