Founded in 1963, St. James Preschool has been a much-loved fixture of San Francisco’s Inner Richmond neighborhood for almost 60 years. We are a nonsectarian and nonprofit preschool, providing quality education to children from ages 2 to 5. As a small school with an exceptional child-to-teacher ratio, we are dedicated to a developmental child-centered philosophy that fosters personal growth and respects a child’s spirit.
Social, physical, and cognitive growth are unique to each child. St. James Preschool is committed to building on, developing, and expanding the unique abilities of each child within an atmosphere of joy. The joy of friendship. The joy of growing. The joy of learning.
Children are grouped by age in three engaging and responsive classroom environments, with most starting in our twos program. We offer an optional extended day schedule to meet the needs of working parents. Our class sizes range between 9 children (for our twos program) and 16 children (for preK), with 2 to 3 teachers per classroom, assuring that every child in our care is seen, heard, and loved.
